Нова Македонија : орган на Народно-ослободителниот фронт на Македонија
At the third session of the Presidium of ASNOM, held from 2 to 5 September 1944 in the Prohor Pčinjski monastery, the decision was taken to found a daily newspaper. Immediately afterwards, the Agitation and Propaganda Department (AGITPROP) of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Macedonia and the General Staff were tasked with forming a special commission to prepare and publish this daily. Three names were proposed from the outset — Nezavisna Makedonija (Independent Macedonia), Slobodna Makedonija (Free Macedonia) and Nova Makedonija (New Macedonia). The name Nova Makedonija was found most fitting, as it emphasised that this was a new rebirth, a new modern Macedonian state, with a different socio-political order and with new and different principles of governance and life.
“Nova Makedonija” is the first Macedonian daily newspaper, founded by a decision of the Presidium of ASNOM. The first issue was published on 29 October 1944 in the village of Gorno Vranovci, where the first printing house — today a museum — is located. Vasil Ivanovski was appointed its first editor-in-chief. The first issue, eight pages in all, appeared in a small print run and was distributed to brigades, headquarters and many associations; it was the first official document printed in the codified Macedonian language. The second issue was printed in Bitola, and from the third (22 November) the newspaper was printed and published in Skopje. The newspaper even appeared on 27 July 1963, the day after the Skopje earthquake.
After the turbulent transition years, the revived “Nova Makedonija” resumed publication on 30 April 2008.
